Caecostomy: From 1 Different Sources


n. the creation of an artificial *stoma that serves as a bridge between the caecum and the anterior abdominal wall. Its function is to facilitate lavage in patients with refractory constipation or to decompress the intestine, usually when the colon is obstructed or injured. This may be performed surgically or endoscopically (percutaneous endoscopic caecostomy, PEC).
