n. a drug that mimics the action of calcium in the body by activating the calcium-sensing cell receptors and thus reduces the level of *parathyroid hormone. It is used in the treatment of secondary *hyperparathyroidism in advanced kidney failure and also for reducing the level of *hypercalcaemia in parathyroid carcinoma. It is taken orally. Trade name: Mimpara.
