Cytokeratin: From 1 Different Sources


n. a member of a family of proteins – *keratins – found in the cytoplasm of epithelial tissues and the cancers arising in them (*carcinomas). Any given carcinoma has its unique pattern of cytokeratins, which can be identified on histochemical analysis of a specimen and can help in the diagnosis of metastatic carcinoma when the primary site of metastasis is unknown.
