The plant contains beta-sitosterol and alkaloid delpheline; aerial parts contain an alkaloid, elatine.Seeds are very poisonous; contain several aconitine-like alkaloids. Del- phinidine, isolated from seeds, causes drastic gastro-enteric irritation.
