n. a unit of energy (symbol: eV) equal to the increase in the energy of an electron when it passes through a rise in potential of one volt. In clinical imaging, the energy of gamma rays is usually expressed in kiloelectronvolts (symbol: kV; 1 kV = 1000 eV).
