n. abnormal brittleness or fragility, for example of the hair (fragilitas crinium) or the bones (fragilitas ossium; see osteogenesis imperfecta).

Brittle Bone Disease

Fragilitas ossium. A genetic disease where the child is unable to stand because bones of the legs would snap under slightest pressure. Legs may be broken as many as twenty times.

Alternatives. Treatment. Almost one third require major surgery. Herbal nutrition may build up quality of bone from within: Horsetail, Yarrow, Comfrey, Fenugreek seeds.

Powders. Formula: Comfrey root 2; Marigold 1; Horsetail 1; Mix. Dose: 750mg (three 00 capsules or half a teaspoon) thrice daily.

Tinctures. Formula: Comfrey root 2; Horsetail 1; Marigold 1. Dose: 1-2 teaspoons thrice daily. Fenugreek tea. Consume seeds as well as liquor.

Propolis. Regeneration of bone tissue.

Comfrey. It would appear that the internal use of the root could be justified, where its benefits far outstrip its risks.

Diet and Supplements: same as for OSTEOPOROSIS.

Osteogenesis Imperfecta

(OI, fragilitas ossium, brittle bone disease) a congenital disorder of connective tissue formation that affects bone, teeth, and soft tissues. It has an estimated incidence of 1 in 20,000 and there are at least eight types, of varying severity, the worst being lethal at birth. Most types are inherited as autosomal *dominant characteristics. In all types the bones are brittle and fracture easily; the *sclerae may be blue and teeth are often deformed. See also dentinogenesis (imperfecta).... osteogenesis imperfecta
