Ictus is another term for a STROKE.
n. a stroke or any sudden attack, such as a subarachnoid haemorrhage. The term is often used for an epileptic seizure, stressing the suddenness of its onset (see also aura; postictal phase).
n. the forewarning of an epileptic or migrainous attack. An epileptic aura (sometimes known as the preictal phase, because it precedes the main *ictus or seizure) may take many forms, such as an odd smell or taste. The migrainous aura may affect the patient’s eyesight with visual phenomena, such as fortification spectra (zigzag lines) or scotomas (black holes in the visual field), but it may also result in pins and needles, weakness of the limbs, or *aphasia.... aura
the recovery phase that follows immediately after an epileptic seizure (see epilepsy). It may last anything from a few minutes to several hours and is typically characterized by drowsiness, confusion, loss of memory, and feelings of sadness or anxiety. See ictus.... postictal phase
