n. a rare form of chronic inflammatory disorder due to the defective destruction of phagocytosed bacteria. It is characterized by the formation of soft yellow plaques and nodules composed of foamy macrophages containing basophilic cytoplasmic inclusions (Michaelis–Gutmann bodies).
