A long-acting nitrate drug that acts as a vasodilator drug. Isosorbide is used to reduce the severity and frequency of angina pectoris. This drug is also given to treat severe heart failure. Adverse effects include headache, hot flushes, and dizziness.

Isosorbide Dinitrate

a drug used for the prevention and treatment of angina; it acts by relaxing the smooth muscle of both arteries and veins, thus causing dilatation (see vasodilator). Side-effects include headache, flushing, dizziness, and hypotension.
