Each state is responsible for its own Medicaid programme, and provides up to half the funding, depending on the state’s per capita income. The programmes cover inpatient hospital services, outpatient hospital services, other laboratory and X-ray services, skilled nursing services, physician services, family-planning services, medical and surgical dentistry, and screening for children under 21.
