The absence of one testis, usually the result of the failure of one TESTICLE to drop down into the SCROTUM before birth. Monorchism is sometimes used to describe the condition when one testicle has been destroyed by disease or injury, or has been surgically removed – when, for example, the man has developed cancer of the testicle.

n. absence of one testis. This is usually due to failure of one testicle to descend into the scrotum before birth. The term is sometimes used for the condition in which one testicle has been removed surgically or destroyed by injury or disease. If the single testis is normal, no adverse effects result from the absence of the other.
