n. the surgical removal of all or part of the omentum (the fold of peritoneum between the stomach and other abdominal organs). In infracolic omentectomy the lower section of the greater omentum is excised as part of the management of ovarian or bowel cancer. It enables accurate staging and optimal reduction of the cancer.
