(ovaritis) n. inflammation of an ovary, either on the surface or within the organ. Oophoritis may be associated with infection of the Fallopian tubes (see salpingitis) or the lower part of the abdominal cavity. Follicular oophoritis is inflammation of the ovarian (Graafian) follicles. A bacterial infection usually responds to antibiotics.
