Action: Plant—sedative, analgesic, haemostatic, anthelmintic.
The rhizome contains a glucoside, alpha-paristyphnin, which exhibited a depressant action on carotid pressure, myocardium, and respiratory movements experimentally. It produced vasoconstriction in kidney, but vasodilation in the spleen and limbs, and stimulated isolated intestines.
