n. an *anticonvulsant drug used to control tonic–clonic and partial epileptic seizures and status epilepticus. Side-effects include nausea and vomiting, confusion, dizziness, headache, tremor, insomnia, and (more rarely) gum hypertrophy, hirsutism, and skin rashes. Overdosage causes unsteadiness and slurred speech.
