A form of calcium sulphate, which, after soaking in water, sets ?rmly. For this reason it is widely used as a form of splinting in the treatment of fractures, for producing casts to immobilise parts of the body, and for dental models. Splints are made with bandages impregnated with plaster and a suitable adhesive. Its great advantage, compared with an ordinary splint, is that it can be moulded to the shape of the limb.
