A rare condition characterized by ulcers, usually on the legs, that turn into hard, painful
areas surrounded by discoloured skin. Pyoderma gangrenosum occurs as a rare complication in ulcerative colitis.
This is a disorder in which large ulcerating lesions appear suddenly and dramatically in the skin. It is the result of underlying VASCULITIS. It is usually the result of in?ammatory bowel disease such as ULCERATIVE COLITIS or CROHN’S DISEASE but can be associated with RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS.

It may be associated with ulcerative *colitis or *Crohn’s disease or with *rheumatoid arthritis or other forms of arthritis affecting many joints. Treatment is with ciclosporin, high doses of corticosteroids, or other immunosuppressants.
