Carallia Brachiata

(Lour.) Merr.

Synonym: C. integerrima DC. C. lucida Roxb. ex Kurz.

Habitat: Throughout India, up to an altitude of 1,300 m, and in the Andamans.

Folk: Karalli, Kierpa. Varanga (Malyalam).

Action: Leaves—used in the treatment of sapraemia. Bark—used for treating oral ulcers, stomatitis, inflammation of the throat.

The leaves contain alkaloids (0.2% dry basis), the major being (+)-hygro- line.... carallia brachiata

Pyaemia

n. blood poisoning by pus-forming bacteria released from an abscess. The widespread formation of abscesses may develop, with fatal results. Compare sapraemia; septicaemia; toxaemia.... pyaemia
