Budgerigar-fancier’s lung is a form of extrinsic allergic ALVEOLITIS, resulting from sensitisation to budgerigars, or parakeets as they are known in North America. Skin tests have revealed sensitisation to the birds’ droppings and/or serum. Chlorpromazine is chemically related to the antihistamine drug, PROMETHAZINE HYDROCHLORIDE. One of the ?rst antipsychotic drugs to be marketed, it is used extensively in psychiatry on account of its action in calming psychotic activity without producing undue general depression or clouding of consciousness. The drug is used particularly in SCHIZOPHRENIA and mania. It carries a risk of contact sensitisation, so should be handled with care, and the drug has a wide range of side-effects.... chlorpromazine
