Also termed tetraiodothyronine, nicknamed is thyroxine. Secreted by the thyroid along with T3 (triiodothyronine...also called thyroxine), this thyroxine is mostly conjugated in the blood by TBG (thyroxine-binding globulin), whereas the more active T3 tends to float free.
