Tuftsin: From 1 Different Sources


n. a tetrapeptide derived from IgG (see immunoglobulin), produced mainly in the spleen, that stimulates *neutrophil activity (phagocytosis). Levels of tuftsin are reduced after *splenectomy, resulting in diminished resistance to infection, especially by encapsulated organisms.
